The venue of Turkey Vultures worked its way into my installation with a mountain lion kill of a doe, which brought the turkey vultures to our arroyo.

The turkey vultures play an important role in the Circle of Life. They have been hanging out in venues of 3 to 30 all summer –perfect for observing and sketching.

The first time I saw turkey vultures was along the Gila River. To see them sitting on old tree snags warming their wings, is awe-inspiring. To see them glide effortlessly through the sky made me race for a pen and paper.

Silent, ancient kites
Effortlessly glide warm wind
Dark shadows racing
